Paving New Roads Beyond Contemporary Christian Music
“Faith is an important component of our music; but really our music is about how we meet life through our faith.”
That’s the synopsis from Ron Lawrence, one of the composers for the Jericho Road Crew. There is a lot of great music out there, and contemporary Christian music is one of the fastest growing genres in music today. Much of that music rightly praises God and glorifies His Son, Jesus Christ. For the Jericho Road Crew, however, something more is needed to reach a world that seems to be looking the other way.
Since 1988, the Jericho Road Crew has offered a variety of music from different genres: from gospel to celtic, country to rock and roll. The music is always full of fun, harmonies and hope, lyrics and love. Our album, "Moonlight Harvest", is our first offering with all original music. The Road Crew has always played a mix of secular and Christian music— feeling like that opens more doors to our message. More and more, our music reflects this mix of God and world within each song.
Since the release of “Moonlight Harvest”, the Road Crew has continued to record new music—most of it written by Ron Lawrence and Kathy McLean. Recently we have set up a “New Music” page on our web site. It’s a slightly different approach to our marketing. Some might think that we are giving our music away, but we’re just trying to give people a peek into our work as it is happening. We’d love to hear what you think.
Jericho Road Crew Featured on the Point FM
On December 4th, 2015, the Jericho Road Crew appeared on the “Local Spotlight”, a weekly program on the Point FM, hosted by Carrie Henry. This seemed an unlikely venue for a Christian band.
The gig came about as a result of Ron Lawrence’s appearance at the
Singer/Songwriter contest hosted by Advance Music and the Point FM. At this first round of the contest, Ron played his original song, “Can You Feel My Prayer”. Although Ron didn’t place, Carrie Henry, who was one of the judges, approached him after the contest.
“I think she thought I was playing a cover tune.”, Ron explains. Carrie, also works at FreeVermontRadio.org, an internet radio station that features Vermont musicians. Carrie recognized the song that has achieved some play time at the station. She also seemed to identify with the song’s message.
The interview on the Point lasted a little over 20 minutes and featured three original songs played live on the air by the Jericho Road Crew. Though clearly a secular program and venue, Carrie was unafraid of delving into the faith component of the Road Crew’s music. Thank you Carrie, and God Bless!
